A quick and well-coordinated response from security and law enforcement agencies ensured that a suspect was arrested, just minutes after he allegedly broke in at a crèche in town.
“Our monitoring centre received multiple alarm signals from a local crèche on Uitenhage Road in the early hours of Tuesday morning 12 November 2019. Two armed response vehicles were deployed to investigate,” explains Ryan Britz, Port Elizabeth branch manager for Fidelity ADT.
“When our officers arrived at the address, they inspected the premises and noticed an unidentified suspect allegedly in the process of breaking-in. They instructed the suspect to surrender, but he refused to cooperate and instead tried to run away.”
Britz says the officers noticed a Metro Police officer driving past, and they asked him to assist. They shared a detailed description of the alleged suspect and explained in which direction he ran.
“The suspect was located and apprehended by Metro Police a short while later, and he was positively identified by the two Fidelity ADT armed response officers. All items allegedly stolen from the crèche were successfully recovered.
“Well done to everyone involved in this arrest. I remind residents and business owners in Port Elizabeth to test their security systems regularly. If you have any doubt if the system is working properly, please make contact with your security company as soon as possible,” says Britz.
