Two alleged hijackers fled from a stolen truck in the Port Elizabeth Central area recently when they were spotted by two Fidelity ADT armed response officers shortly after committing the crime.
“Our officers were doing their usual patrols in Albany Road when they saw a truck being hijacked by two unknown suspects. The vehicle belonged to a national logistics company and was carrying valuable goods at the time. The officers responded quickly and managed to follow the stolen vehicle and get close to it along Newington Road,” says Fidelity ADT’s branch manager for Port Elizabeth, Ryan Britz.
It was at this point that the suspects realised they were seen by the armed response team.
“Our two officers describe to us that it appeared the suspects were panicking at being possibly arrested. They stopped the stolen truck and immediately jumped out and ran away. The suspect unfortunately managed to evade apprehension, but the truck and all its contents was recovered and returned to its lawful owner,” says Britz.
Follow-up patrols were conducted afterwards but these perpetrators were nowhere to be found.
Britz says he is proud of how the officers responded, even if the company whose vehicle was stolen was not a customer.
