The Hillcrest South African Police Service (SAPS) recently took custody of a suspect thanks to the collective efforts of the SA Community Crime Watch (SACCW) and our security team.
“In the early afternoon of Monday, 13th February, our Armed Response team received information from SACCW responders regarding reports of a knife-wielding suspect along Inanda Road and immediately responded,” says Charnel Hattingh, Head of Marketing and Communications at Fidelity Services Group.
The suspect was successfully chased down and apprehended on Inanda Road, Waterfall. “Further investigation revealed that the suspect had attempted to stop multiple vehicles wielding a knife. He jumped on the back of a Hyundai H100 and threw a bottle at a passing motorist and then proceeded to stab a passing cyclist while attempting to rob him of his bicycle,” says Hattingh.
Netcare 911 medics arrived on scene and stabilised the stabbing victim before transporting him to hospital for further treatment.
The suspect was handed over for arrest to members of the Hillcrest SAPS.
“We commend everyone involved for their quick response and excellent teamwork in ensuring this violent suspect was caught,” concludes Hattingh.
