A proactive approach to safeguarding your home and loved ones includes conducting a comprehensive security audit and ensuring that all security systems are properly tested and maintained.

Mid-year home security checklist
When conducting your security inspection, pay attention to the following:
- Test all alarm sensors to ensure they correctly detect when doors and windows are opened or closed
- Inspect visible alarm wiring for signs of damage, wear or fraying
- Trim trees and bushes that may obstruct outdoor beams or sensors and remove branches that could interfere with electric fencing
- Test all locks on doors, gates and access points. Ensure your gate motor battery is functioning correctly and remove any obstacles that could prevent a sliding gate from opening or closing properly
- Remove ladders, tools, bins, garden furniture or any loose objects that could assist an intruder in gaining access to your property
- Following heavy rain or severe weather, inspect all outdoor security equipment, including beams, cameras and electric fencing, for any damage or misalignment
- Check the condition of your alarm backup battery. Batteries have a limited lifespan and are critical during power outages or other electrical disruptions
- Inspect perimeter walls, fencing and electric fences for signs of damage or weaknesses that could allow unauthorised access
- Verify that CCTV cameras remain correctly positioned, are clean, and continue to provide clear coverage of key areas around your property
- Confirm that your armed response company has your latest contact information and ensure your alarm system can still successfully communicate emergency signals with the monitoring centre.
