A small community in Port Elizabeth can now rest assured in knowing that brand-new security cameras are on duty to protect them. Two license plate recognition (LPR) cameras were installed for the Theesecombe Residents Association earlier this month.
“LPR cameras have already proved their value in incidents across the country and the Theesecombe residents approached us last year to ask how they can go about having their own cameras installed. These cameras were installed following our discussions and equipped with solar panels to enable them to operate on a permanent basis regardless of load shedding or other power failures,” explains Ryan Britz, Port Elizabeth branch manager at Fidelity ADT.
LPR cameras generate alert messages when any suspect vehicle drives past, to alert police or security companies. The cameras are linked to a central database where stolen vehicles are reported, or where any vehicles that are deemed to be connected to any existing investigations are reported.
“Once the lockdown regulations were lifted, we were able to sign the contract and install the cameras. They are now up and running and are connected to our Community Information Centre (CIC) in Port Elizabeth. These cameras help police and security role players to respond and keep the people of PE safe,” says Britz.
