The Community Control Room (CCR) played an integral part in a recent arrest after a suspect was apprehended by a Fidelity ADT officer in Kloof.
The CCR was established by Fidelity ADT a few years ago and has since become a platform by which community security entities can share important information such as reporting incidents, emergencies, suspicious behaviour etc. The CCR is also linked to several smart technology community security cameras, also implemented by the security company, which enables them to track and flag stolen or wanted vehicles.
The operators in the CCR monitor these cameras and also disseminate relevant information to multiple crime fighting community WhatsApp groups involving Neighbourhood Watches and Community Policing Forums across Durban.
“One of the recent modus operandi’s evident in the Kloof area was the theft of gate motor batteries. We relayed this information to our customers and reinforced the importance of ensuring gate motors remain locked and secured. The CCR has been instrumental in supplying crime updates to our operations team which they are able to use to support the community in the fight against crime. These community entities serve as an additional resource to us and their input is key in giving us the opportunity to proactively address crime,” says Fidelity ADT’s district manager for KwaZulu-Natal, Vaughan Pillay.
The CCR notified all Fidelity ADT units operating in the Upper Highway area of the modus operandi around gate motor battery theft which enabled them to know what to look out for should they come across such incidents.
This led to the apprehension of a suspect on Tuesday, 1 September after an alarm signal was activated at a property in Nkonka Road, Kloof at around 06:00 am.
Fidelity ADT’s armed response officer, Bongani Sibisi was dispatched and upon arrival immediately noticed that the gate motor battery had been stolen. The officer knew what to look out for and within minutes sucessfully apprehended the suspect who had jumped the wall into St Mary Road.

All role players within the community were informed of the arrest through the CCR and the suspect was handed over to the local Sout African Police Services (SAPS) for arrest.
