A suspect has been arrested by Paarl SAPS in connection with an alleged theft of copper from a nearby farm. This follows an incident on Friday morning (10 January 2020 at around 9.47am) where the suspect was apprehended by two local armed response officers.
“Our officers were busy with proactive patrols in the centre of town, when they noticed an unidentified person running down Main Road. It appeared that he was trying to evade apprehension, and our officers soon also spotted a vehicle that seemed to be chasing after this person,” explains Verena Hulme, Cape Town North district manager at Fidelity ADT.
The officers, she adds, joined the pursuit when they heard from the driver of the vehicle that the running suspect had allegedly earlier stolen a number of items from his property.
“The suspect was soon stopped and apprehended. When he was searched, our officers found copper items in his possession which was allegedly stolen earlier,” says Hulme.
Police were called to the scene, and the suspect was arrested and charged with theft.
