Police in Durbanville have arrested a suspect on a charge of housebreaking. He was arrested after reportedly trying to burgle the house next door to his first target.
“One of our armed response officers was sent to respond to a call for help from a customer on Fluweeltjie Street (around 10pm on Sunday 6 March 2022). The customer reported that a suspect who had broken into the house on Saturday was again spotted outside the property,” explains Verena Hulme, Cape Town North district manager at Fidelity ADT.
A set of house keys, a laptop, books and a bag were some of the items stolen on Saturday.
“Our officer was busy speaking to the customer when they heard a neighbour calling for help. She had spotted an unidentified person in her garden, and our officer immediately went to assist,” says Hulme.
This unidentified person was located and apprehended. A search of his possessions led to the discovery of the set of house keys that were stolen that day before from the neighbour. Durbanville police soon arrived on the scene, and took the suspect into custody.
