The Alexandra South African Police Service (SAPS) recently took custody of four armed robbery suspects thanks to the rapid response and collaboration of several security personnel.
“Over recent weeks, there has been a spate of robberies in the Alexandra, Pelham, Scottsville and Epworth areas, where a group of four men driving a blue Renault Sandero have been robbing pedestrians, mainly targeting female students,” explains Charnel Hattingh, Head of Marketing and Communications at Fidelity Services Group.
On Friday, 16th September at around 14h00, a blue Sandero fitting the description was spotted by Alexandra SAPS members. When the occupants of the vehicle noticed the SAPS, they fled in the vehicle and a chase ensued.
“The vehicle was chased to Brayford Road where the four occupants were successfully arrested by members of Alexandra SAPS, Fidelity Specialised Intervention Unit (SIU) and other security partners. The motor vehicle was searched and stolen goods, including cell phones were found,” says Hattingh.
The vehicle was taken in for processing and safe guarding and the four suspects and recovered items were handed over to SAPS. Further investigation revealed that the suspects had been involved in a robbery earlier that day.
“We commend the teams involved for their swift response and collaborative efforts,” concludes Hattingh.
