A suspect was arrested early on Wednesday morning (around 03.30am, on Wednesday 9 December 2020) on a charge of theft and housebreaking.
“Two of our armed response officers were on patrol in North End when they saw three unidentified men walking along Dobson Street. This was before the lifting of the 4am curfew, and our officers immediately called for backup from colleagues before approaching the men,” says Ryan Britz, Fidelity ADT’s branch manager in Port Elizabeth.
One of the suspects was found to have suspected stolen property on his person. It is suspected that the items had been stolen from a business property on Dobson Street.
“Our officers asked our monitoring centre to alert the owner of the business premises as to what had happened. The suspect was handed over into police custody,” says Britz.
“Well done to our officers for spotting the suspicious activity and for responding so quickly. I wish them everything of the best as they and their colleagues work to keep the people of Port Elizabeth safe over this festive season.”
