Police have taken one suspect into custody, after he and an accomplice allegedly stole copper cables from a cement factory outside Saldanha. The incident took place on Saturday 13 March 2021, just after 1pm.
“Armed response officer Clive Segrys was called to the premises on Saturday, to respond to suspicious behavior. When he arrived at the facility he noticed two male suspects running away, and he called for backup,” explains Verena Hulme, Cape Town North district manager at Fidelity ADT.
“Officer Johan van der Westhuizen soon arrived, and he helped officer Segrys to pursue the suspects and successfully apprehend one of them.”
Hulme says the manager of the facility confirmed to the officers that copper cables had earlier been stolen, and the cables were recovered where the suspects allegedly hid them in nearby bushes. “The suspect was handed over into the custody of Saldanha SAPS on a charge of theft.”
