Public safety officers have helped in the arrest of seven suspects in and around Hermanus in recent days, in connection with various charges. The officers are part of the Hermanus Public Protection (HPP) team, a ratepayer funded initiative in partnership with Fidelity ADT.
Two of the incidents involved the HPP’s CCTV operators who observed suspicious behavior, says Fidelity ADT’s branch manager for Hermanus, Marius Boshoff.
“The camera operators responded to two separate incidents they observed in the Industrial area early in the morning on 28 May 2022. The one case involved an alleged case of trespassing which led to one arrest, while the second case involved an assault. The latter saw three suspects being arrested on a charge of public disorder,” says Boshoff.
Meanwhile in an unrelated incident, an HPP officer patrolling along the cliff paths (on 25 May) walked past a parked car with its boot slightly open. “Our officer alerted the monitoring center that he would stand next to the car until its owner arrived as he could see several high valued items inside the boot. When the owner arrived a few minutes later, he thanked the officer for his diligence in protecting these items,” says Boshoff.
HPP officers also assisted in the apprehension of two suspects in connection with separate alleged shoplifting of items of clothing in the CBD on 24 May, while another suspect was apprehended on 25 May after he was found with presumed stolen property in his possession.
