Stolen goods recovered in Durban North

Stolen goods were recovered in Ronaldo Road, Glen Hills after two Fidelity ADT officers spotted a suspect carrying a flat screen television in the early hours of the morning recently.

“Two of our officers were patrolling in the Durban North area when they noticed two suspicious men, one of whom was carrying a flat screen television. Our officers patrol on a 24/7 basis, so whilst most of us are sleeping quietly in our homes, our officers remain alert and vigilant day and night,” says Fidelity ADT’s district manager for KwaZulu-Natal, Vaughan Pillay.

Armed Response Officers (ARO’s) Sakhile Dlamuka and Wonderboy Dlamini immediately stopped to investigate. The two suspects dropped the stolen television and fled into a nearby bush. One of the officers recovered the flat screen TV whilst the other chased after the suspects.

“We have stepped up our patrols and visibility drives to assist in driving out crime in our Durban suburbs. With the festive season fast approaching it is essential that we enhance our operational activities to address the traditional increase in criminal activity. In addition, and in line with regulations to control and prevent the spread of the coronavirus we have provided all our staff with the necessary PPE equipment to ensure the safety of both our employees and customers,” says Pillay.

The officers conducted a search for the suspects and also called for back up to assist. Unfortunately, after extensive searches, the suspects were nowhere to be found however the stolen item was handed in at the Greenwood SAPS and the perpetrators got a rude awakening to the security presence in the area.

“I would like to commend both officers for their vigilance and thank them for their commitment towards keeping Durban North residents safe. Additional patrols will continue during the festive season and I urge all residents to be extra vigilant during this time. The Covid-19 pandemic has left many families in dire circumstances which unfortunately leads to an increase in crime. We need to continue to collaborate and work together to keep our neighbourhoods safe through a collective effort with local authorities, other private security companies, neighbourhood watches and residents,” concluded Pillay.
