Residents in the Cape Town city bowl have been asked to avoid leaving valuable items in their parked cars at night. This follows an arrest in Tamboerskloof recently, when a suspect was tracked down and arrested after reportedly breaking into a car along Belle Omre Road (at around 5am on 21 January 2022).
“One of our armed response officers was alerted to the incident, and he managed to locate the suspect along Eaton Lane,” says Mr Jade Hanning, Western Cape General Manager for Fidelity ADT.
The suspect was searched and the suspected stolen items were found in his possession. “We ask residents who park their cars outside at night, to avoid as far as possible leaving valuable items in their cars. If you see anyone loitering in your street at night, please make contact with the SAPS or your neighbourhood watch as soon as possible,” says Hanning. The suspect was handed over into the custody of Cape Town SAPS, and he has been charged with theft from a motor vehicle.
