A group of suspects were nabbed in Hout Bay on Monday (21 February 2022 at around 17h15) shortly after they reportedly stole items from a local shop.
“One of our armed response officers was on patrol when he heard a report on the Community Crime Prevention (CCP) radio network about a suspicious vehicle in the area. He was sent to investigate,” explains Mr Jade Hanning, Western Cape General Manager at Fidelity ADT.
The officer located the vehicle in question, and saw it pull into the parking area at a local chain store. He kept the vehicle under observation for a few minutes, until he noticed one of the store’s security officers come running outside while chasing an unidentified person.
“Our officers joined the pursuit, with the help of one of his colleagues who by that time had also arrived at the scene. The suspect tried to evade apprehension by hiding among members of the public, but he was quickly located and detained,” says Hanning.
The suspect vehicle was also searched, and suspected stolen bottles of alcohol was discovered inside. It was later determined that a group of four unidentified men were involved in stealing alcohol from a liquor outlet inside the building. The occupants of the vehicle were also detained, and handed over into police custody while the stolen items were recovered.
“This was an excellent example of teamwork between different security and armed response partners, who are united in keeping Hout Bay safe. If you are aware of any suspicious activity in your suburb, please raise the alarm immediately so that the appropriate response can be dispatched,” says Hanning.
