A local armed response officer managed to apprehend three suspects in the space of one week, after responding to two separate alarm activations in Aberdeen and Flower Streets respectively.

“In the first incident on Sunday, 30 August armed response officer Ian Cooke responded to an alarm activation at a shop in Aberdeen Street. The officer arrived at the property within minutes and immediately proceeded to investigate the premises,” says Fidelity ADT’s branch manager for Hermanus, Marius Boshoff.

Officer Cooke found two suspects in the process of stealing goods from the back of the property. They were both detained and the stolen goods were recovered.

“We have found that criminals have been targeting local business’ a lot more in recent years, not only in the CBD but also in other suburban areas in Hermanus. Business owners are encouraged to take the necessary safety precautions by installing adequate security measures” says Boshoff.

A few days later (on Thursday 3 September) officer Cooke was at it again, when he came to the aid of the Hermanus Neighbourhood Watch. “They asked that he help track down a suspect in the Westcliff area after he was allegedly involved in a house break-in,” says Boshoff.

Officer Cooke located the suspect in Flower Street, where he was apprehended and handed over for arrest to the SAPS.

“Well done to Officer Cooke for his arrests and for the smooth cooperation with our partners in the Neighbourhood Watch. It once again highlights the importance of a collaborative effort in the fight against crime in Hermanus,” Boshoff concluded.
