A suspect was arrested in Saldanha on the weekend, after an alleged break-in at an address in the area.
“We were alerted that two unidentified men were trying to gain access to a home on Jaffe Street on Saturday afternoon (14 August 2021, around 1.31pm) and sent an armed response officer to investigate. When he arrived in the street, he was given a description of the alleged suspects and the direction in which they fled,” explains Verena Hulme, Cape Town North district manager at Fidelity ADT.
The officer started searching the area, and soon located two men matching the description given. “He called for backup while approaching the suspects. One managed to flee, while his accomplice was detained and handed over into police custody. A bag with stolen copper pipes was also recovered,” says Hulme.
In another incident along the West Coast this weekend, an expensive bicycle was recovered not long after it was stolen from an address in Langebaan.
“One of our officers was sent to investigate a reported burglary at a home along Merenstyn Street early on Sunday morning. The home owner explained to our officer that a suspect had allegedly just stolen a bike worth R12 000 from her garage,” says Hulme.
The officer proceeded to search the suburb and very quickly came across an unidentified person matching the description provided earlier. When he saw the approaching officer, he threw the bike he was pushing to the ground and fled.
“We were not able to apprehend this suspect, but the bike was returned to its rightful and very happy owner,” says Hulme.
