A joint operation with Roodepoort SAPS, Fidelity Specialised Intervention Unit (SIU), in collaboration with CPF sector 2 & 3, Block watches and other security companies in the area, over a 3-day period, has resulted in the arrest of 53 suspects and the confiscation of three firearms.
On 25 January, the teams, comprising 63 members and 50 vehicles, conducted a stop and search operation in the Roodepoort area from 23:50 ending at 04:00. Sixteen suspects were arrested and one firearm was booked in.
The team conducted another blitz operation this weekend(29 January ), which resulted in another 21 arrests and the confiscation of 2 firearms.
The majority of the arrests were for contravening the Level 3 Lockdown regulations. One of the suspects arrested is wanted for an attempted murder and assault case.
Wayne Lamprecht Community Development Manager for Fidelity ADT says, “We believe that by working closely with SAPS and other security providers we can show a united force that sends a clear message to criminals that crime will not go unnoticed.
