The Jeffrey’s Bay South African Police Service (SAPS) recently took custody of a suspected thief and alleged rapist thanks to the rapid response of a local security company.
In the early evening of Tuesday, 8th November, Fidelity ADT Armed Response Officer (ARO) Ryal Page received a notification from a local Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) group regarding a suspect they were chasing who was seen trespassing and stealing pipes from an air-conditioning unit in Du Plessis Street.
“Our officer immediately responded and joined the chase, eventually tracking the suspect down in a nearby tavern where he managed to apprehend him,” says Charnel Hattingh, Head of Marketing and Communications at Fidelity Services Group.
The local NHW and another security role players arrived and confirmed that it was the same suspect they had seen. The SAPS arrived and took the suspect to the Jeffrey’s Bay police station.
On arrival at the police station, the suspect was recognised by a female who was opening a case of rape and who claimed that the suspect had raped her multiple times the night before. The suspect was arrested not only for theft, but rape as well.
“We commend everyone involved in bringing this suspect to book,” concludes Hattingh.
