Residents and business owners in and around Plettenberg Bay have been advised to consider extra outside perimeter security measures. A recent incident in town have shown that extra measures could be especially valuable to protect security cameras that have been installed.
“From what we were told in local community policing meetings where crime trends are discussed with the SAPS, there were cases where suspects used white paint to block CCTV cameras. It seems they use the paint to block the camera’s view and then they can move freely when they break in,” explains Ivor Claasen, Garden Route branch manager for Fidelity ADT.
Security measures for any home or business should be approached in a layered approach, he adds.
“How easy would it be to break into your building? Is there a fence that blocks your movement or a sensor that will be triggered when you move past? Are your cameras located in a position where they offer the best possible coverage while not being easily accessible for any criminal element who want to damage them? And when last did you test your security system to see that everything is in a working order,” asks Claasen.
“If you have any questions about the systems that are installed at your property, ask your security company to do an urgent assessment so they can give you peace of mind.”
