A suspect was arrested in Wynberg last week (Wednesday 22 July 2021) after he allegedly stole a phone from an address in the area. His actions were recorded by a neighbour, and this information proved instrumental in finding and apprehending the suspect.
“One of our officers was alerted to a reported theft from an address along Cavan Road on Tuesday 21 July, and he went to investigate. The home owner explained that an unidentified person had jumped the wall and stolen a phone before fleeing,” explains Mr Jade Hanning, Western Cape General Manager for Fidelity ADT.
“The next-door neighbour managed to take photos of the alleged suspect, and these images were shared with all armed response vehicles in the area.”
Hanning says the officer was patrolling the area again on the next day, when he encountered a person along Silverhurst Road who resembled the image taken from the previous day’s incident. “Our officer stopped the suspect and escorted him to the complainant on Cavan Road, who positively identified the suspect as the person who on Tuesday stole the cellphone.”
The suspect was handed over into custody of Wynberg SAPS on a charge of theft.
“The responsible use of images can help us a lot when tracking down suspects. If you have any information on an alleged crime or suspect, please share it with your armed response company or with the SAPS as soon as you can. Thank you to the neighbour who alerted us to what images was available, as this proved very helpful in arresting this suspect,” says Hanning
