A suspect was arrested by police this past weekend (Sunday 29 August 2021, approx. 4pm) after he allegedly robbed a woman of her cellphone.
“We received a report that a member of the public had been robbed of her phone close to the Doordrift Road bridge over the M3 freeway. The call from the complainant’s employer, who alerted us to what had happened and asked our help,” explains Mr Jade Hanning, Western Cape General Manager for Fidelity ADT.
An armed response officer was sent to investigate, and he was given a detailed description of the alleged suspect. “Our officer patrolled the area and later that afternoon came across a person matching the description provided,” says Hanning.
Both the complainant and her employer positively identified the suspect, and he was handed over into police custody.
“The accurate information we were given helped a lot in locating and apprehending this suspect. If you report an incident to us or to police, please try to be as detailed as you can. Take notice of the clothing they wear, any distinguishing facial features, as well as other features that stand out. It is often very useful to remember the shoes worn, as suspects often discard the jackets or jerseys they wore but keep wearing the same pair of shoes,” says Hanning.
He also recommends reporting any incident to the police, even if nothing was stolen. Police and security partners need accurate information on local crime trends, in order to more effectively deploy their resources.
