Security camera operators in Hermanus helped in the arrest of two suspects a few days back, after they were found in possession of suspected stolen goods.
“The CCTV camera operators at Hermanus Public Protection (HPP) spotted two men late one Sunday night walking towards the Westcliff suburb. Their demeanor raised suspicion and local patrollers were alerted to be on the lookout for the men. As officers approached the men, they disappeared into bushes and no further trace could be found of the two,” says Marius Boshoff, Hermanus branch manager at Fidelity ADT.
It was about two hours later when CCTV operators again spotted the same two men, this time walking in the Industrial area at around 01h33 the next morning. HPP Supervisor, Juan Havenga and the Fidelity ADT armed response officers were dispatched and this time the men were successfully located.
“Officers stopped the men and asked to search them, which led to the discovery of items that appeared to have been stolen. This included a chandelier, cleaning items, and a few knives. The men could not give a plausible reason why they had the items in their possession,” says Boshoff.
The two were apprehended and handed over into police custody, and have been charged with possession of suspected stolen items.
“Well done to the HPP camera operators for being alert which led to the successful arrest of these suspects. We are proud to be their partners in keeping Hermanus safe,” says Boshoff
