Police have taken two suspects into custody in connection with a stabbing incident in Walmer, on Friday 11 September 2020.
“Two of our armed response officers (Emile Kleynhans and Ross Solomon) were on patrol in the Kamma Park area when they were flagged down by a member of the public who told them of a stabbing incident nearby,” explains Ryan Britz, Port Elizabeth Branch Manager at Fidelity ADT.
It was reported that a driver for a well-known e-commerce company had been attacked and stabbed before being robbed. The officers found the injured driver on Openbaring Street and he gave them a description of his alleged attackers.
“Our officers alerted the Community Information Centre so that medical assistance could be dispatched to treat the injured driver, while they continued the search for the alleged attackers. The suspects were soon tracked down at a nearby property where they were hiding and they were apprehended before being handed over into the custody of Walmer SAPS,” says Britz.
Emergency services stabilised and safely transported the driver to a nearby hospital for treatment. It was later established that the two alleged suspects hijacked the driver and robbed him of cash as well as his personal belongings. The knife allegedly used to stab the driver was found inside the premises where the suspects were hiding, and they have been charged with hijacking, attempted murder and theft.
“We are grateful to have been able to help and I would like to thank and congratulate both our officers for their excellent work and assistance. I would like to encourage residents to remain vigilant when driving and to be on the lookout for anything suspicious. It is also important to report suspicious behaviour to the SAPS or our Fidelity ADT team immediately” said Britz.
